{"id":267,"date":"2026-09-10T14:26:31","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T13:26:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebasicmaterialsproject.com\/?p=267"},"modified":"2026-09-10T14:26:31","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T13:26:31","slug":"building-a-new-pc-septemeber-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebasicmaterialsproject.com\/?p=267","title":{"rendered":"Building a New PC septemeber 2026."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Have been nagging on about this for a while so here we go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luckily got a rtx 5060 a good while back and also an oldish RAID NVME card that I can repurpose into the new build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still expensive, a mix of parts new and used brings the price down a good bit really.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RAID NVME was from a Xeon server job a maybe 3 of four years ago and the discs have hardly been used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The price back then, just going from memory was like 140 gbp around that. The cost to build now is something like 400 quid, seriously, how can the replacement cost be that much more expensive ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luckily I built up the component parts up over time using micro financing and even the cpu, this time its an Ultra7 270k has gone up by 20 pound, not much but still, and the gpu is about 45 pound more expensive now than when i got it around 6 months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long overdue, still rattling the i5 12thgen with rtx 3060 so that&#8217;s going into the second hand market to recover a few quid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I might have mentioned it. But the primary reason is to get an IntelOne API and and Nvidia CUDA compiler compatibility line up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this will be able to compile software, tools, pcb validation and python and ai stuff with the present gen cloud compatible compilers and toolchains. So basically small jobs can be built on the box and if there is a need for a big job then the software can be drag and dropped either into intel Tiber cloud or build.nvidia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also to note some short courses completed over at build.nvidia regards ai agent workflows<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However didnt get to far because of lack of windows subsytem for linux. Its hardly worth bothering on anything other than Ubuntu for nvidia AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I anticipate not much difference for unreal engine , blender, ableton , or windows based CAD\/CAM (slight uptick in performance)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So for usual desktop workflows like DaVinci resolve or what have not expecting much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However this AI models and Agents work flows look like you are better of on ubuntu. (i think 20.04 is nvidia present support line)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So there&#8217;s definitely a sort of case for a AI partner to assist the compiler or even for smart contract work aswell.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have been nagging on about this for a while so here we go.
