Looking to upgrade the project, looking forward to the release of wordpress 7 and thinking about developing an interlinking plugin to bridge Figma and WordPress.

Have been producing some EDM using ableton this past month would say about half way through the album with an early release date scheduled for about august this year.

Presently Ableton has really began to shine with the max for live devices and what have you. It makes you wonder were is it all going next as they seemed to have explored every avenue of development.

Also of note is Akai competing directly with Ableton and the DAW-less movement gathering steam, especially in techno it seems the battle space for inclusion is .hotting up.

Intel and AMD are battling it out with a few new CPU market entries but it feels kind of a tide me over half-hearted battle. the ultra 7 is looking a good value, there does seem to be a bit of a lull in the marketing cycle.

there isn’t much penetration in terms of cultural needs of artificial intelligence around the world it seems that only a small part of culture is actually in tune with the whole AI zeitgeist.

In all honesty it seems that say outside of US venture capital culture and perhaps to include AI in companies marketing image there doesnt seem to be the global applicable scope that marketing and image positioning is claiming.

It seems that the hype cycle is a little deflated at the present with everything else going, the narrow band information funneling that is a part of tech giant information monopoly consequentially sort of self iterates its own needs which are perhaps culturally out of touch of every one else , the majority, who exists outside of this tech stock panopticon.

Independent voices aside, even the ‘counter-culture’ feels a little feigned, perhaps over reactionary, to the general direction of the discourse.

The over expectation of Nvidia stock prices and the few american tech giants sort of over burdening presence in the imagination of peoples minds promises total culture, economic, industrial business and financial penetration of AI technologies has yet to materialise outside of the venture capital ‘thing’

Evolution is occurring, progress is being made, perhaps im outside of the loop but it does feel as if some tunneling effect is going here were everybody seems to be over parroting all of the key talking points, and you could you argue its gimmicks based with fantastic audio visual results but not yet acheiving anything like the promises made.

meens that theyve have to be right because effetively all of the capital has been over allocated so the hope is it all becomes a self fullfilling prohpecy because if it doesnt you are going to lose half the globes capital reserves, so hell of a gamble really.

Its about a thousand pounds and is an interesting and different offering in the price bracket.

Its looking good, its not to bulky , easy to transport to the gig and paired with a laptop, or upto 8 xlr mics for stuff like live bands and such like, although this mixing desk has a few limitations here and there it also ticks of a lot of boxes and is a good balanced compromise.

Alternatevily you could plump up another grand and get the allen and heath ‘Q’ type mixing desk with dante.

Twice as expensive with only 4 more audio lanes however it is dante enabled.

Well see its time to get back into music again.

Before I forget new market research was out comparing the SpaceX/Starlink and all the various communications technologies.

Obviously pure fibre, mixed fibre, 5g(mobile) mesh-tastic, and some more stuff about using nvidia Ai in the power plane.

The space x thing is relatively affordable but is power intense so the cost of ownership in terms of the power required is the highest however in terms of a back up fail safe its a good option or for example you live in the middle of nowhere, however as to be expected full fibre is fastest and highest capacity, and the optics are cheaper to run aswell so its lightest on the old electricity bill.

There’s a little bit in there about how much power savings occur between the evolution of the different kinds and types of networks, from packet switched, ATM, MPLS etc and even analogue and DAB.

SO again another thing to point out is, these super fast ai interconnects, again pushing up against and exceeding, along with the power supply demands and capacities really does mean there’s an separate evolutionary field occurring, again similar to the contract licence manufacturing thing that is occurring which , due to extreme costs, is moving a sort of generational gap beyond the reach of most.

So there is a ‘splits’ occurring, and if this gold silver thing moves into other natural resources and metals it pushes manufacturing out of reach for many SMEs and startups.

And finally there’s also been some issues as regards the extreme smallness of the microchips at the cutting edge and the over heating is causing some longevity issues and some circuit degradation issues.

Personally, i could be wrong, but i think there’s going to be a hunkering down and cost cutting section going forward, it seems that extreme performance might not be the right market segment to sell to as affordability, but also compatibility with present gen infrastructure, looms. The technical capabilities of some of the stuff at the cutting edge is getting far beyond the capabilities of a lot of , call them the next best tier manufacturers.

That is the difference between 1st pace and second place is getting a quite a big gap in terms of technical capability. So some players in the space are miles ahead yes as the cloud computational capability necessary to validate ( or ‘compile’) such fantastic designs falls out of the reach of most other players. So there is a good bit of “back-propagation” for ex gen manufacturing processes and sort of affordable capacity collapsing down quickly to hobbyist or enthusiast capability.

To put in contrast apple can manufacture at one location about 50 million usd of iphones per production cycle. At these scales and volumes and at the technical cutting edge there aren’t really that many players that can even compete in that league.

Mid weight Ubuntu server updates – a bit of progress against the Linux kernel.

Some few upgrades onto the Linux kernel its probably expected to be a new kernel released shortly so will definitely check it out.

Also WordPress 7 forthcoming with a few CLI tools and some AI sort of stuff.

Also of note doing the rounds is the x402 payment gateway protocol that allows collected payment via the hyperlink, useful in some use cases.

There has been a lot of software engineering going down on Ubuntu and a lot of useful software is now available on the Ubuntu , however don’t use the latest version try and keep a step behind because a lot of stuff doesn’t recognise the Ubuntu version number so there’s a few issues come through like that.

However development proceeds.

There’s a lot going on the hardware side of things at the moment, there’s all sorts of competitive pressures and considerable fragmentation between platforms, applications, architectures and compilers sort there are a few gaps coming through in terms of application performance.

Its one of them, although time progress moving forward there’s all sorts of going in terms of complexity and platforms management, in itself a terrible non productive pane in the hyper plane.

On the CAD/CAM side of things, general prices have gone up, and minimum order values have skyrocketed also so apart from intel one api and intel tiber cloud being cheap and powerful theres not much more positive news coming out of this space immediately however where just at that time of year were we leave Christmas and new year behind.

Bitcoin and crypto is all the way down and the crypto fleece continues . It seems there’s just too much going on.

Before i forget there was some good research coming through as regards software engineering using MCP – model context protocol and C++ on Ubuntu , at most basic fundamental level there is much to be said about the set up, it would be interesting to see how this evolves but simple C++ ‘server’, or continuous delivery type applications are improving in simplicity but also capability, there is perhaps scope for a c++ type crypto/blockchain/Zero knowledge proof type of system perhaps might emerge.

Presently, its a funny time in the industry, but the hype seems to be a good bit down. Well see how things progress throughout the year.

Global structural re investments are still to find their way and the corresponding results filter through to the wider economy.

The forthcoming Intel chips are something to look forward to as they combine features and bring them all together using the intel one api , compiler, which will bring forward software development, by presenting a unified underlying infrastructure, however the DDR 5 ram hostage situation has evolved the price to idiotic prices really.

AI research – there’s a lot of enthusiast/amateur AI stuff coming down the pipeline, so its good that there is a lot of interest but even that seems to be fizzling away, well , at least low key.

Perhaps it has been overly provisioned for a buzzing economy but the wider economy is in a slump. Should things pick up again then perhaps there will be an upside however, due to this gold/silver thing, and this supply chain issues with key microchips, for example RAM, and everything else that is going in, in means there’s a sort of network effect of the need for massive capital because contract licencing manufactures are unable to offer productions for anything less that previous contract manufacturing was more willing to do smaller more affordable production runs, but now the minimum spend is very very very high so the capital required to compete at volume and scale is mostly unreachable for the many.

how about making music not using a computer or DAW ?

Perhaps Im a little late to the game but yeah, have never actually done that route.

You will need a few drum machines, a bass synth, another synth maybe a few actually and yeah, to get cracking making music, but without a DAW or plugins samples or virtual instruments.

Funny how I’ve never actually done that.

You see the computer makes things sound a bit off key, its subtle, sometimes i think its just me but there is definitely something to computers adding some dis-coloration to sounds.

Plus what Im missing these days is the absolute immediacy of music, of conjuring up sound ! Something that is getting further and further aways these days.

Granted there is an attempt to bridge the gap with unified systems like ableton push3 stand alone and the latest akai mpc XL, but at some point, your a gear head, your not a musician anymore. You know eventually your completely and utterley snowed under with all of this. It gets in the way, takes up too much time and maintenance, and frankly is a bit too so possessive and interuptive and all that, as odd as it is to say such things but yeah that’s what it looks like, its what it feels like.

Its been a long journey since the atari ST and cubase, all the way through even until today with the latest ableton and max for live.

but yeah maybe its time to get back to the absolute creative core of cranking out good music.

released by steinberg its the most affordable atmos 9.1 mixdown on the market bring atmos mixing to the masses.

HOwever to ‘hear’ you will still need at least an atmos 9.1 hardware, such for example the apple monitor with the built in speaker array, this is neccessery to trigger some parts of the software, unlocking DRM – digital rights management.

This brings atmos mixing to the masses, well who ever has the wavelab 13 version from cubase.

were also looking forward to forthcoming CPUs from Intel, the newest Xeon workstation chip, and the ultra 3 generation, which for the first time makes available some server side assembly language instruction sets usually reserved for the server side, xeon brand.

Also we note the collapse of native instruments izotope brand so there’s some news about that going round social media at the present. Once again have been a massive fan of both these companies for a very long time so its sad news to hear.

We look forward to the forthcoming wordpress 7 due presently now with AI bult in so its going to be interested to see what happens with the long serving wordpress platform.

Apart from that, that’s about all there is for the latest updates, Seems to be relevantly quite for the time of year .

just a quick note.

The basic software you can get on apple free, imovies and garageband, and x code were all updated recently. this offers a decent entry point onto digital content creation. simple but effective. with high quality results.

might invest more in apple platform as it seams to work relevantly pain and hassle free.

when you look at the value proposition, although purchasing the final cut pro and logic X would be an extra 700 pound spend, this is still just about the same price as an adobe creative cloud subscription for the first year. So it works out cheaper in the long term.

pricing is getting a bit retarded with the gold silver thing and the ai boom causing the microchip shortages of ram. So combined with wildly speculative stock prices going from pillar to post and the race for AI subscriber base to out-rival a massive platform like netflix, Added into the mix of content creators so we see a massive wobbly about all of this causing more and more problems.

Figma with the code and the Make ai capability is a serious value proposition for the individual self employed freelance web developer because it speeds up the whole front end processes. you still have to manually sort out the back end individually but it speeds up the process and makes it a lot easier, reduces the cognitive burden of manually coding front ends.

It looks like the alternative is to create your own AI models however the cognitive burden of doing this is high so might not be worth it however that being said it is improving day by day.

A quick list of what has been happening all of the latest development news from the basic materials project.

Its been a minute since weve checked in. SO basically the world has split up into windows development, using unreal engine, blender, ableton, and Adobe creative cloud, max for live, etc so the windows operatibng system.

web3 development has become fully migrated to ubunutu server 25.

So coding has become specialised on ubuutu server (with desktop added). For everything coding and devclopment, wether stand alone apps, appis, blockchain of defie smart contracts, etc basically everything.

In parallel to this all the apps that are software GUIS, so everything mentioned including kiCAD, 3CAD, and those others mentioned, So all of these GUI apps, or windows apps, for jobs and processes and procedures ‘up above’ figuratively speaking are all now on the windows machine. which is an i5 12th gen with rtx 3060 gpu 32gb ram 1tb drive. An ok reasonably priced machine.

And the ubunutu server is on the old dell laptop that we’ve had for years thats used pretty much exclusively for ‘coding’. However due to security reasons and to tighten security with all the attacks on blockchain and crypto this is an exclusively a develop and test environment while we get further into cyfrin and updraft codehawks.

I would say im a fairly confident web3 developer now, but like i didnt know when i got started down this route i expect another year working through the course over on cyfrin updraft, at the moment im about half way through all of the available courses, about 11 out of 34 of the developer badges unlocked, but once again yeah all of twenty six thus far, well keep proceeding along those lines.

As its coming to the endi of the year will tone it down a bit and take it easy but still expect to hit cyfrin updraft on a daily basis.

Little by little step by step peice by peice.. I could say confidently we could launch a defi contract or smart contract however it wouldn’t be at expert level, i would say i self rate myself at an intermediate standard now able to initiate and devlop and test smart contracts securely using etherium, Solana and Hedera HBAr and cardano/algorand, and im confident in my ability to use web3 wallets (both hardware and modules in the web browser) securely.

Thanks to everyone on the various groups, GitHub, tiny-tape out and cyfrin up-draft as well as all those who have contributed time energy and effort into the teaching materials as well as its much appreciated. Considerations time.

The generations are beginning to change now and there are alternatives to the tech industry underway. I think there is two clear stream emerging,, AI provisioning stream, and the UX layer through bitcoin crypt o and blockchain and all of that jazz.

There is perhaps an almighty engineering task of getting all this to work as WordPress block nits, or custom WordPress module s but you would have top find a way of making it interact with all of the new stack.

Can there be a solution were these is peaceful happy co-existence ?

Of course you would be running a ‘devops’ nightmare having to support and evolve alongside the two very different methodologies and ways of thinking and indeed even the very nature and way they solve problems is vastly and remarkable different.

there’s room in the market going forward in web3 and crypto and defi, but there is opportunity in the hardware wallet or web3 infrastructure space such as cheap and cheerful bitcoin mining.

electronics products design is an interesting space going forward due to all of this various considerations.

rebuilt – ssl certificate, github repo, developer laptop, and have massively been developing smart contracts using the cyfrin updraft platform with all of the additionals, python vyper feirce solidity , meta mask and have also been re hammering through the courses as the schedule develops.

One thing for sure about web3 its different than the traditional, getting to the point were we could release some basic smart contracts, perhaps on hedera, because its cheap, rather than paying the developer alary for the about 12 months that it would take it might be better paying it forward by releasing forward smart contracts that run the basics for a while, a sort of start and fail forward methodolgy , translating developer wages bills into smart currenceys and smart contracts pairs , with a few limited humble contract releases so that you actually are getting into the Secure Defi market space.

It might be a better strategy just to get something up and running in a limited capacity rather than spending the money on devleoper sub contracts, but also paying for contract hosting on the block chain AND the smart tokens such as chainink, aave or uniswap or gmx perpetuals

Were looking at quit high developer wages, cryptocurrency and blockchain fees, balanced with the few hundreds of millions in the global internet economey as Defi and tokenisation ramps up.

maybe 2026 will see a further hundred million potential customers all across the block chain ecosystem, so in a sense you could argue that the market could double in terms of customers, including the possibility of developing customers that are already getting into the Defi scenario.

Couple of more upgrades, WordPress, and moving the developer environment from windows to Ubuntu.

MetaMask wallet, which is advisable to use with Brave web browser.

Theres a few upgrades to GitHub aswell so there some monday.com sort of additions to projects.

Have been busy this past few months , the last quarter or so boning up on TinyTapeOut, KiCAD, FreeCAD, and xMSpice validation tools so some very serious engineering simulations.

Blender is up a new version aswell.

However that being said looking forward into 26 year well be splitting the streams up into 5 main progression streams.

2 Game and 3d design with Blender, Unreal engine

3 UX website design using web2 technologies.

LAMP with Html, Javascript, website hosting maintenance

website and app design and prototyping using figma make and adobe creative cloud

4 audio production music and podcast/radio production using ableton and izotope plugin bundles.

5 STEM. Science technology and engineering with validation using KiCAD, 3CAD, Xscem, MagicSpice for fabrication.

Forward looking statements for 26.

Probably the usual NVIDIA, and social media battle for AI and probably might be a less pacier year in terms of developments as theres been a lot, perhaps fatigue a lot of announcements this year so its a bit tiring and seaming with each and every monumental release its a bit OTT actually.

There is supposed to be some release from itel about 1st/2nd quarter 26 with a new cpu so basically there combining xeon and desktop cpu with the ai enhanced chip so that will be a pretty big thing the xeon assembly language is pretty advantageous and as also these ai chips are single core single thread they fulfill a handy iso standard aswell so well probably be upgrading about 3 or four months into this as our standard loadout because it finally will combine dekstop/laptop and server assembly language instruction sets in one which for us in particular will be really handy.

Figma Make ; well impressed with this figma make tool for javascript graphical front end user interfaces that make the web look absolutely amazing much more like a video game,

Theres also a tie in to web3 VR/XR and 3d graphics jscript libraries so there’s been a heck of a lot of progress and ground covered there.

Adobe seems to be slipping the adobe stock price is continuing on a long term downward trend as its just too expensive compared to much cheaper products like Figma, and DaVinci resolve.

Also to note ai tools are taking a massive big chunk out f the marketplace aswell.

This is a 2025 remix of a 2020 project, downloading building and installing bitcoin core, litecoin core, dogecoin core from scratch.

This remix will retrace the original basic materials project, we will be hosting a linux fedora server on top of a Xeon workstation, with the additional fast PCIE bridge card, a RAID card with x4 NVME disk drives running the various of blockchains.

Its five years later,so that means the block chain, distributed ledger, will be 5 years later bigger than before!

However we can get this going fast, and as per back then, way back when, we will show you a linux command line security pinhole, a particular configuration that will allow manipulation and interrogation of the blockchain core from the website/web browser will pass command and data back and forth via the linux operating system.

The reason we are doing this is because these kinds of blockchains,bitcoin, litecoin and doge coin, are different kinds of block chains than Ethereum and later cryptos such as solona, these earlier blockchains and cryptos behave and work differently than the later ones.

So we will see that we can interrogate and perform work against these kinds of blockchains with a C++ application, or and installable apache server module, we can program ourselves using C++.

At this level we don’t need a wallet, or De-FI or even C-eX to work the blockchain.Heck we don’t even need a web browser.

All’s we need is a computer capable of 24/7/365 electricity supply and a 24/7/365 always internet connection.

We can then add our inhouse hashrate to any of the HashRate Pools out there in the internet land if we wish.

However we cant do anything other than create, store, buy or sell really !

That’s why we will show how to run other cryptos like Cardono, Etherium, Solona, XRP, Hedera, all much later blockchain crypto tokens and we can then truly understand the use case for a Chainlink or an AAVE3 protocol.

The Tiny Tape out and the PsychoGenesis social platforms are absolutely phenomenal resources and a text book example of social outreach using various online platforms and including GitHUB

Yes in way you can say its an expansion of the last years open source 3cad AND KiCAD with the STEM modules but the TinY TapE out and PsychoGenesis, are again, online social education resource you simply cant miss.

The ground they have covered and the results they have achieved are mega ! Yes Mega Results!

The GitHUB interacitivty is probably the most impressive github actions in the world.

You can effectively compile and build your own microchip via the tiny tape out website and github resource.

Alternatively you can download the linux/opensource iso/VM so you can just run that and all the tools are all available already with all the versions aligned and everything working together harmonously !

This is one of the most next level community driven social education programs in existence well worth walking alongside with as the times progress because you know, its not too far away, at least in principles, of how the biggest companies on the planet in electronics names like intel, nvidia, amd, arm samsung apple, the list go on into motherboard and graphics card manufacturers, to a variety of microchip companies like Siemens and Texas Instruments.

Seriously begining to get bored with cyfrin updraft maybe its because i have learned all the secrets to web3 smart contracts, secuirty audits, zero-knowledge proofs etc etc etc.

JOKING ASIDE ! The Cyfrin Updraft has been my number one essential go to resource, which I have been a fan of since doing the first earlier course on youtube back in 2020!

Seriously much time has passed since then and much progress has been made, a whole lot actually.

So ive been slowley working away in my free time over at cyfrin updraft doing the whole lot, I have done about 5 courses out of a potential 23 , and partway through 3 or 4 which Im spending some time here and there on each of the partsm rather than buring and blasting all the way through any particular one.

And to back up the knowledge actually provding the code based interface, mainly in javascript, wallets, solidity , and a bunch of similar toolsets for all of the crypto-currencies out there, you find that the concepts are roughly the same between crypto-currencies, with slight differences here and there, you get what I mean, without going into any of the particular nuances of each.

SO, even if you just want to securely play in the crypto space safely, or even go all in buying and sellings, staking,competing ,etc

Then Cyfrin Updraft is highly recommended and certainly has been my go to resource at the CYfrin Updraft website at least since this past May 2025.

Bitcoin, Etherium, Solana have performed really well all almost to near all time highs however due to critical traffics backlog in the crypto web3 space, speculation is moving to the lesser coins, and their respective lesser chains because the on/off ramp into most blockchain projects on etherium and solana are absolutely over subscribed and very backed up.

Naturaly, the next available crypto blockchain style that has availability is seeing an uptick in interest and demand, if developers and releasers want to float high quality high avaialablity digital assets for TradFI of DefI, DEX/’platformless’, crypto wallet based trades, or even the main centralised Exchanges !

Have to say Im well impressed all together.

Some of the games are mind blowing.

Cheap compared to a gaming PC and has the particular SONY offerings, its quite integrated and the graphics and gameplay are quite smooth and bit more simple and straightforward than playing on PC.

The game pad is smart, a bit power hungry and always need charged.

Your not gonna wind call of duty on it but hey you cant have it all in a 330 pound console, there are graphics cards that cost more!

Great to play and relax and have a bit of r&r. Its great to see the final results of all the production and productivity processes.

Taking it back from the RM Nimbus days all the way through the atari 2600 , BBC, ZX spectrum, Sega, Nintenedo, PLaystion., XBox gaming PCs over the decades it quite a cool thing in terms of perspective and fightin in with the whole thing. Games are expensive individually however these PlayStation Store subscriptions offer further value for money.

PlayStation 5 is coming to the end of its life cycle however its actually not that difficult to get your unreal engine game onto the PlayStation store, so its also a relatively easy processes.

Skills in logistics, strategy, software engineering can be forward deployed into the physicality of industrialism and combined with psycho-cybernetics for goals based outcomes leads us forward to competitive edges in providing the products and the industrial capacity to fill – in the massive gaps left by successive waves of negative political philosophies and political shennanigans over the past recent years.

the basic materials project is in a strong generalist position due to experience in the digital world of software and design, and in having extensive experience building, from personal computers to recording studios to supporting film and media. Through to wide practical experience using the various music production systems out there in the marketplace and from having developed software on a variety of paradigms and architectures.

Leveraging Artificial Intelligence, chiefly on the Nvida platform this broad generalist approach has the potential to be concentrated into real world business to increase the chance of successful outcomes.

This year spent considerable time going through Apple Xcode and the Apple Developer connect.

Must say Im very well impressed, Apple really have got their act together. It seems that everything is covered. Payments, 3d, VR/XR, even legal requirements for apps hosted in the apple store across global regions.

The programming language, tooling is probably the best in the industry.

However, screen real estate is a bit cramped unless, of course, you have the big apple monitor or iMac with the big screen.

That aside its definitely the best offering.
